With Free Agent tampering coming Monday, there are several players on the market the Bucs should have strong interest in. It will be interesting to see how Jason Licht and Dirk Koetter want to mold this football team. In this article I am going to give you 4 players the Bucs should contact once legal tampering begins.
Olivier Vernon- Vernon would be a huge addition to the Bucs defensive line. The Dolphins slapped him with the transition tag, which gives them the option to match any offer he accepts from another team. Vernon is 6'2 275, and is a physical specimen. Coming out of college, Vernon ran a 4.64 40 yard dash, 31 reps on the bench, and a 10'2 broad jump. Vernon is also only 25 years old and is hitting the prime of his career. In 2015, Vernon totaled 18 tackles for a loss (4th in the NFL) and 35 QB hits (3rd in the NFL). Vernon will come with a very steep price tag and honestly the Bucs have the money to offer him a nice pay day.
Lamar Miller- If Doug Martin is indeed on the way out, you would have to think Jason Licht will be on the phone with Miller's agent as soon as legal tampering begins. Miller has great hands, catching passes out of the backfield, and has the extra gear, Doug doesn't possess, to finish off long runs. Miller is a playmaker and a highlight machine. I personally look at Miller as an upgrade over Doug, although I know that could rub a lot of Bucs’ fans the wrong way. Miller is looking for about $5M a year and 20 touches a game. Miller also comes with very low mileage on the tires, as he was not used as much as he wanted with the Dolphins.
Janoris Jenkins- Jenkins is a playmaking machine at CB. Trumaine Johnson received the franchise tag by the LA Rams, which is allowing Jenkins test the market. Jenkins was a troublemaker in college, which lead to him being kicked off of the University of Florida football team, but has had no issues since being drafted in 2012. Jenkins checks in at 5'10 198, which is very similar to a popular mock draft pick to the Bucs in Vernon Hargreaves III. Personally, I would much rather sign Jenkins, a proven commodity at CB, than spend a top 10 pick on VH3. Jenkins will be the most intriguing FA at CB, so look for a nice big contract for the 27-year-old.
Travis Benjamin- Benjamin brings blazing speed at WR and is the return man the Bucs desperately need. Benjamin had a very solid 2015 campaign with the Browns, posting 68 catches for 966 yards with 5 TD's. Who knows how scary the Bucs could look on offense with Jameis throwing to Evans, Benjamin, and a healthy Vincent Jackson. Benjamin is also a dynamic returner, who is a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball. How nice would that be Bucs fans?
