Vernon Hargreaves has been a popular name in mock drafts to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The potential marriage between the Bucs and the hometown prospect might be taking another step to becoming a reality.
The Bucs recently signed Brent Grimes and Josh Robinson to join Johnthan Banks and Alterraun Verner in their defensive backfield. While Hargreaves isn't completely out of the question for the Bucs in the 1st round, there is a strong feeling I have that he just can't be the Bucs' selection. The Bucs have much more desperate needs along their defensive line, safety, right tackle, and even at wide receiver. Drafting a 5'10'' cornerback within the top 10 picks is a very risky move for any team.
As I wrote about a month ago, Hargreaves size should be a major concern. The Bucs will continue to face the likes of Julio Jones and Kelvin Benjamin twice a year, every year, for years to come. A corner selected in the top 10 should be the shutdown corner to match up with elite receivers across the NFL. At 5'10'', that's a tough feat for any player that size.
The Buccaneers will do their due diligence with all potential prospects they could select with the 9th pick or a pick lower in case of a trade.
