Risks need to be taken to be successful in the NFL. Consistent playoff teams are made by drafting solid players. The Bucs have not been in the playoffs since 2008, and I believe this is the year to make a move that can turn this organization into a contender for the present and the future. Trade up for Jalen Ramsey.
This year's draft class is weak. Defensive tackle is deep, but that is about it. There are no sure fire superstar quarterbacks (don't listen to Mike Mayock) that teams are feverishly trying to figure out how to trade up for. I honestly believe there are two elite players in Laremy Tunsil and Jalen "Jumpman" Ramsey.
Tennessee, who desperately needs to figure out how to protect Marcus Mariota, owns the first overall pick. With their glaring need on the offensive line, Titans GM Jon Robinson, and former right-hand man to Buccaneers GM Jason Licht, has said they would like to trade down, but if there is no interest, the Titans will stay put and draft their guy. There are smoke screens coming out of Tennessee saying they like Ramsey at 1, but I believe Robinson is playing his cards on who he can find a trade partner with.
Who better than Jason Licht and the Buccaneers. The guys are buddies and there will be no bullsh** going on in negotiations. My following statement is about to be very bold. I believe Jason Licht and the Buccaneers organization have an opportunity to draft Hall of Famers in back to back first rounds with Jameis Winston and Jalen Ramsey. Florida State teammates who know what it takes to win and take their jobs very seriously.
Ramsey would be the Jameis Winston of the Bucs defense. Ramsey is a gifted athlete, ferocious competitor, and fiery leader. I can see the Bucs playing him all over the defense, getting creative with him at safety, or locking down key opposing receivers like Kelvin Benjamin and Julio Jones. Ramsey was a true freshmen All-American when he won the National Championship at Florida State, and was also an All-American at Cornerback last year for the Seminoles.
I think this year is the year to make a move that sends shock-waves around the NFL. Go get your guy. Get the guy who you know can decide a game by himself. Mike Smith knows all about these big time trades, being the Head Coach of the Falcons when they traded up for Julio Jones. Don't settle. They can always get a pick back by trading Glennon, but there might not be a better opportunity to grab a Jameis Winston-type leader on defense.
