Buccaneers WR Mike Evans took the podium today to speak on the eve of training camp. Despite the storyline surrounding the Louis Murphy incident, and the ongoing battle for the 3rd wide receiver position, Evans seems confident in the receivers currently on the roster.
When questioned about the depth of the Buccaneers’ current receiving corps, Evans had a confident response.
“All of our guys can play. They showed that last year and they made plays when they had to; when V-Jax went down and Murph went down. There’s a lot of talent on this team, and they’ll show it in camp,” Evans said.
While Louis Murphy has been placed on the Active/PUP list, Kenny Bell, Adam Humphries, or a player to be named needs to step up for that 3rd spot. Having 2 perimeter receivers like Jackson and Evans must be complimented by a consistent guy in the slot.
Jackson is nearing the end of his career, and while on the field he’s productive. Injuries have plagued him in recent years, and the same goes for Evans. Last year, we did see flashes of talent from Shepard, Humphries, and Dye. Let’s just hope Evans and Dye worked on some hand-to-eye coordination drills during the off-season.
