The Bucs didn't have their best performance in their first preseason game, but it wasn't all bad. The Bucs defensive line was flat fire, which is a huge boost to what that unit has been over the last several years.
We saw sacks from Clinton McDonald, Howard Jones, Jacquies Smith, and Akeem Spence. While they didn't get sacks, we also saw great pressure and energy from Robert Ayers and Noah Spence. As a whole, the defensive line showed the most success Bucs fans have seen since the days of Sapp and Rice, and that is not hyperbole.
“The guys are just playing together," Gerald McCoy said at halftime. "The thing is, when you’ve got a band of guys working together, it’s hard to stop when they’re working in unison. We’ve got a lot of hungry guys who want to prove that we can be who we said we’re supposed to be.”
If the Bucs are able to keep this new energy and aggression up into the regular season, the Bucs defense will be a drastically improved unit in 2016.
