As the Bucs starting offense was on the field early in Saturday's game against the Jaguars, we saw tight ends Cameron Brate, Luke Stocker, and Brandon Myers all play downs before Austin Seferian-Jenkins stepped on the field.
During practices with the Jaguars, my good buddies at JoeBucsFan.com caught Jameis Winston dressing down ASJ for a lack of hustle:
In an 11-on-11 drill with the Bucs’ second-team offense on the field, Mike Glennon threw an incomplete pass. As soon as the ball hit the ground, Jameis, in such a loud voice he could have been heard in Georgia, pierced the muggy morning air for all to clearly hear, “Hey Austin, run. Run. Run!!!” Jameis was pumping his fist in the air for emphasis as he hollered at ASJ.
As Saturday's game progressed into the 2nd quarter, play-by-play announcer Chris Myers revealed that the Bucs had received inquiries on the availability of Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
I think it's easy to say that you can't give up on Seferian-Jenkins yet, but that might not be how BucsGM Jason Licht operates. Licht said in the pre-draft process this year that 90% of all draft busts are due to their mentality and not their physical ability. If Licht feels he missed on Seferian-Jenkins' true mentality, then perhaps Licht is willing to listen to these inquiries to try and correct that mistake.
