In tonight’s Bucs vs. Jags preseason game, Buccaneers’ first round pick CB Vernon Hargreaves has been showing what he’s worth. Just before halftime, while playing in the nickel slot position, Hargreaves’ agility snagged an interception from Chad Henne while sitting in the slot in the cover 2. His takeaway led to an Aguayo 28-yard field goal.
In the second half, Hargreaves make another exceptional pick while one on one in the cornerback spot stealing another ball from Henne on a downfield post route. After Hargreaves’ 2nd pick, former Bucs legend and current local preseason Bucs commentator, Ronde Barber, expressed his thoughts when asked by Chris Myers what he liked about Hargreaves.
“Everything,” Barber said. “His movement is elite. When I look at him his shuffle agility is on top of the chart, moving side to side laterally, which will make him a good player inside. If there’s one knock it’s that he doesn’t have great long speed. But what I mentioned about him earlier, the ability not to panic to have confidence in his skills, to catch up when the balls coming in, and to turn around and have confidence to go make a play was outstanding just then,” Barber said.
Hargreaves is currently in a position battle with Jude Adjei-Barimah. While both players are showing flashes, Hargreaves has been splashing tonight.
