LAST WEEK: The Steelers escaped Kansas City with a 20-17 win over the Chiefs. At one point, Pittsburgh was leading this game, 20-2 in the fourth quarter. But they had to hold off a late comeback by the Chiefs and held on to win. RB Jerome Bettis ran for 112 yards and set up two of the Steelers' scores. The Chiefs held Bettis to 24 yards rushing in the first half. Cornerback Chad Scott intercepted a QB Trent Green pass and ran it back 61-yards for a touchdown. The Steelers allowed Chiefs RB Priest Holmes to rush for 150 yards on 20 carries. The Steelers sacked Green four times. The Chiefs blocked a Steelers punt for a safety.
Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers nearly pulled off a miraculous come from behind win in overtime, but lost to the Tennessee Titans, 31-28. The Bucs were trailing 28-14 with 6:00 left in the fourth quarter, but a holding penalty by S John Howell pinned the offense back on their own 6 yard line and forced them to eventually punt. The Titans moved the ball just 12 yards up the field to set up the game-winning touchdown. RB Warrick Dunn scored two touchdowns against Tennessee and WR Keyshawn Johnson caught eight passes for 140 yards. QB Brad Johnson threw three touchdowns.
LAST SEASON The Steelers finished with a 9-7 record and in third place in the AFC Central Division. Pittsburgh did not make the playoffs.
THE LAST TIME THESE TWO TEAMS MET: 1998- Tampa Bay hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers in Raymond James Stadium in December of 1998 and the Bucs pulled out a 16-3 win under the pouring rain in Tampa.
BUCS-STEELES SERIES: Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay have previously met five times. The Steelers lead the series with the Bucs, 4-1.
