Move over, Warrick Dunn. There's a new ballcarrier in town. With Dunn sidelined by a pulled hamstring, the Bucs were forced to feed the ball to Mike Alstott, who moved into the ballcarrier's role on Sunday against the Vikings and responded with a season-high 129 yards rushing on 28 carries, scoring three times. With his performance, Alstott is this week's BucMag.com Bucs MVP.
Alstott had two touchdowns and 79 yards on 20 carries at the half, which broke Minnesota's will as Tampa Bay compiled a 28-0 halftime lead. He broke or slipped close to three dozen Vikings tackles on the day with his patented second and third effort.
Alstott's runs, especially in the first half, got the offensive line and the hometown crowd into the game. The A-Train's rushing efforts also allowed Tampa Bay to play ball control and run 46 plays in the first half compared to a paltry 13 for Minnesota. The Bucs also owned the clock for 22:47, compared to Minnesota's 7:13 in the first half.
Alstott mixed in a couple of big plays amist his rambling, posting five rushes over 10 yards, including an 18-yarder.
