Bucs-Packers Preview

November 2 – The Battle of the Bays rivalry that people have grown to love will come to an end this Sunday when the Buccaneers battle the Packers. Unless these two teams see each other again in the playoffs, this will be the last time Tampa Bay faces Green Bay as a member of the NFC Central Division. Tampa Bay would surely like to end this rivalry by stealing a win in Green Bay, a place they have not won in since 1989. Buccaneer Magazine has the Bucs-Packers preview.

MATCHUP: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-3) at Green Bay Packers (4-2)

WHERE: Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin

WHEN:: Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1:00 p.m. ET. on FOX

PLAY-BY-PLAY: : John Madden and Pat Summerall

LAST WEEK: The Green Bay Packers had a Bye week and have had two weeks to prepare for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers finally looked like the Super Bowl contender everyone expected them to be by crushing the visiting Minnesota Vikings, 41-14. The Bucs offense was led by RB/FB Mike Alstott, who rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Even RB Aaron Stecker got into the action while he was filling in for the injured RB Warrick Dunn by helping QB Brad Johnson sell a screen pass and running 35-yards for his first NFL touchdown. Tampa Bay's defense returned to its old self by holding Minnesota's offense without a first down until 5:00 into the third quarter.

LAST SEASON The Green Bay Packers finished last season with a 9-7 record, but didn't make the playoffs. The Packers were in third place in the NFC Central Division.

THE LAST TIME THESE TWO TEAMS MET: Week 4 Oct. 7, 2001: Tampa Bay and Green Bay went down to the wire in this matchup. The Packers were driving on the Bucs defense, but on the first play of the second quarter, QB Brett Favre threw a pass intended for TE Bubba Franks, but LB Shelton Quarles intercepted it and ran 98-yards for a Tampa Bay touchdown. In the fourth quarter and the Bucs trailing the Packers 10-7, QB Brad Johnson helped engineer a 95-yard drive for the game-winning touchdown. The drive was capped by RB Mike Alstott, who broke tackles and received blocks up the field by WR Keyshawn Johnson for a 39-yard touchdown score.

BUCS-PACKERS SERIES: The Packers all-time record of 27-17-1 against the Buccaneers. Green Bay has won 14 of the last 19 contests, but these teams have split the season series each of the last three seasons. The last time Tampa Bay won in Green Bay was in 1989.
