Bucs CB Barber Named Defensive Player of the Week

November 14 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Ronde Barber intercepted two passes and helped the Pewter Pirates escape Detroit last Sunday with a 20-17 win over the Lions. For his efforts, Barber was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Tampa Bay CB Ronde Barber intercepted two QB Charlie Batch passes last Sunday, which proved to be huge en route to the Pewter Pirates 20-17 win over the Detroit Lions. Both of Barber's interceptions halted Detroit drives deep in Buccaneers' territory. Barber also recorded seven tackles and defended four passes against the Lions. For his efforts, Barber was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.

"I am pretty happy about it," said Barber. "I've been here before, and I'm going to take it as a professional. I'm a product of what this team allows me to do, and I understand that."

Barber's first interception came in the second quarter of last Sunday's contest, where he picked off Batch on Tampa Bay's 19 yard line. In the fourth quarter, Barber intercepted Batch's pass, which was intended for former Bucs WR Bert Emanuel at the Tampa Bay 10 yard line.

Barber, who entered this season with a total of six interceptions in his first four NFL seasons, is tied for second in the NFC this season with five.

This is the third time Barber has received a player of the week award. Barber was named Defensive Player of the Week in Week 2 in 2000 and Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 13 in 1998.
