LAST WEEK: The Detroit Lions lost at Soldier Field to the Chicago Bears, 13-10. At one point, the Lions were up 10-3 over the hometown Bears. But Lions K Jason Hanson missed three field goals on the day.
Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers escaped Cincinnati with a 16-13 win in overtime last Sunday. The Bucs blew a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter and allowed the Bengals to send the game into overtime, but K Martin Gramatica drilled a 21-yard field goal in overtime to win the game.
LAST SEASON The Detroit Lions finished the 2000 season at 9-7 and in third place in the NFC Central Division. The Lions did not make the playoffs.
THE LAST TIME THESE TWO TEAMS MET: Nov. 11, 2001: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated most of the game against the Detroit Lions in Week 8, but they couldn't capatalize on all of their opportunities and escaped Detroit with a 20-17 win.
BUCS-LIONS SERIES: Detroit leads the all-time series with Tampa Bay, 26-22. Tampa Bay has only lost three games to NFC Central opponents at home, but two of those were to the Detroit Lions (1998, 2000).
