Bucs Injury Update

January 2 – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a total of 17 players listed as injured for Sunday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Of those 17 players, 15 are starters. Buccaneer Magazine has the latest injury report for this Sunday night's game at Raymond James Stadium.

The 9-6 Pewter Pirates are preparing for Sunday night's game against the 10-5 Philadelphia Eagles, but this might be a difficult task since 17 of their 53 players are in the infirmary. While such a high number might be cause for concern, Bucs head coach Tony Dungy says it's nothing out of the ordinary.

"This is the time of year where you do have a lot of guys banged up," said Dungy. "We think we're going to have most of our guys ready to play, but we'll see how the week goes."

Even if Tampa Bay had a perfectly healthy squad, the Buccaneers will not likely show tip their hand on Sunday night since both the Eagles and Bucs will meet against the next in the first round of the playoffs. But since Tampa Bay has already clinched a playoff spot and the result of Sunday's night's game at Raymond James Stadium will not affect either team's playoff positioning, the Buccaneers have the luxury of resting players if they want and/or need to.

"We have a lot of guys who would benefit from a week off," said Dungy. "We haven't been able to give them a week off because we've had so much riding on our games. Most of the decisions will probably be made after Friday's practice."

A whopping 15 of Tampa Bay's 17 players banged up are starters. Several players' injuries are up in the air in terms of their chances of playing against the Eagles on Sunday night, but the team will get a better feel after Friday's practice at One Buccaneer Place.

"We've got a few guys sitting that way (may or may not play)," said Dungy. "Keyshawn (Johnson) has been banged up week in and week out. He won't practice today. Jamie Duncan has an ankle sprain. He did better in our walk through than we thought, but we'll look at that. Marcus Jones will almost definitely be out. We've got four or five guys that we'll see how they do on Friday."
