Bucs Lose McDermott To Texans

February 18 - The Houston Texans selected Tampa Bay long snapper Sean McDermott in the expansion draft on Monday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost long snapper/tight end Sean McDermott to the Houston Texans in the expansion draft on Monday. The Texans made McDermott their 14th overall selection, and he was the only Buccaneer selected by Houston. The Buccaneers pulled back defensive end Marcus Jones when McDermott was chosen.

Aside from Jones, the Bucs also had LB Jeff Gooch, LG Randall McDaniel and SS Eric Vance on the expansion draft list, too.

The Texans hired former Bucs special teams coach Joe Marciano to occupy the same position in Houston. McDermott worked well with Marciano, who already had former Bucs long snapper Mitch Palmer on the Texans roster already. Without a long snapper on the team, the Bucs may wait to see if Palmer is released, sign another veteran long snapper or look for an undrafted free agent after the draft to long snap.
