"I just bumped into Keyshawn (Johnson)," said Kelly. "My hand caught his leg in a crazy way and broke."
Kelly did not participate in the afternoon practice and he will not participate in Sunday's final mini-camp practice session. But Kelly is expected to be ready for the next team mini-camp , which will be held April 26-28 at One Buccaneer Place.
"This is great timing," said Kelly. "If there¹s anytime, then this is the best time. I¹ll be able to come back to the next mini-camp and get back into it.."
While Gruden wasn't pleased to learn one of his starting cornerbacks suffered a broken hand, he seemed confident Kelly would recover quickly.
"It looks like he'll be out 3-4 weeks," said Gruden. "But we expect to hopefully have him for the next mini-camp."
In other injury news, Bucs defensive end Simeon Rice saw limited action due to an injury he suffered during Friday's camp. Tampa Bay wide receiver Keith Poole suffered a hamstring strain and linebacker Derrick Brooks and Warren Sapp both continue to observe practices from the sideline while they recover from offseason surgery.
"I think Simeon Rice got bumped around with a helmet yesterday, but he¹s alright," said Gruden. "I think there¹s several players complaining about various injuries. Keith Poole stained a hamstring today and I don¹t know what his status will be tomorrow. But other than that, we¹re gritting it out and we¹re making it through it."
