Although the roster bonus was pushed back, the two sides were reportedly making progress in their efforts to renegotiate Alstott's contract in order to lower his cap value, which is approximately $4.5 million this year.
If the Bucs and Alstott's agent cannot agree on a contract by April 23, the A-Train will likely be released or traded.
In other news, Bucs free agent punter Mark Royals signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins on Friday. Royals spent the last three seasons with the Pewter Pirates, but Tampa Bay released him in March in order to get under the league's mandated salary cap.
Tampa Bay currently has punter Tim Morgan under contract, but they still remain interested in Vikings free agent P/K Mitch Berger, who already visited One Buccaneer Place a few weeks ago. The Buccaneers might also take a look at Dolphins free agent P Matt Turk, who Miami will probably not re-sign.
