Bucs News And Notes

June 4 – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirmed Tuesday that free agent wide receivers Keenan McCardell and Derrick Alexander are both scheduled to visit One Buccaneer Place this week. The Bucs are reportedly having some of their players help court McCardell. In other news, the Bucs released punters Tim Morgan and Mike Abrams along with long snapper Andy Hogan.

BUCS CONFIRM McCARDELL, ALEXANEDER SCHEDULED TO VISIT

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirmed reports from earlier today that free agent wide receivers Keenan McCardell and Derrick Alexander are both scheduled to visit the team in Tampa this week.

McCardell, 32, spent Tuesday visiting Kansas City. The Chiefs are looking for a No. 2 receiver to compliment WR Johnnie Morton. The Chiefs hope to sign McCardell, but they are prepared to pursue free agent WR Antonio Freeman if McCardell signs with another team. Although Tampa Bay did not confirm the date or time of the meeting, McCardell is expected to visit the Bucs on Wednesday morning.

According to Viking Update, Alexander's top priority is signing with Minnesota and his agent, Lamont Smith, is involved in serious contract negotiations with the Vikings. VU also reported that a deal between the Vikings and Alexander could be complete as early as Tuesday.

Alexander visited New England on Tuesday and could visit Tampa Bay as soon as Wednesday.


TEAM EFFORT?

According to Sportsline.com, the Buccaneers have asked some of their players to help court McCardell by giving the veteran receiver a few telephone calls.

The Bucs are not the only team interested in McCardell. There are at least four other teams interested in obtaining McCardell's services.


BUCS RELEASE THREE PLAYERS

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released three players after signing fullback Ken Walker to a one-year contract on Tuesday. The Bucs released punters Tim Morgan and Mike Abrams along with long snapper Andy Hogan. Tom Tupa and Dave Leaverton will compete against each other for the team's punter position.
