Atlanta has signed four of its eight draft picks already, the latest being fifth-round selection SS Keith McCadam.

The Falcons boosted their wide receivers corps by signing free agent WR Darrin Chiaverini. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Chiaverini played in all 16 games with the Dallas Cowboys last year. In his three pro seasons, Chiaverini has hauled in 63 passes for 662 yards and seven touchdowns. He entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick out of Colorado in the 1999 draft.

The Latest

According to the Charlotte Observer, first-round draft pick DE Julius Peppers will likely sign a seven-year contract worth about $35 million. The Panthers hope to have Peppers signed before the team reports to training camp on July 26.

Carolina has signed three of its nine draft picks, the latest being fifth round pick FB Kyle Johnson.

The Latest The Saints have not signed any of its draft picks.

According to some published reports, New Orleans is thinking about signing free agent quarterback Jeff George, but the team first wants to bring him quarterback in for a physical and workout. George, 34, has earned a reputation for being a malcontent after he's played with Washington, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Oakland and Minnesota during his pro career.

After cutting punter Toby Gowin in a salary cap maneuver on June 24, the Saints re-signed him one day later to a one-year contract.

On June 25, the Saints finalized a deal with Governor Mike Foster, which will keep the Saints in New Orleans until at least 2010.
