LAST SEASON: The Miami Dolphins finished the 2001 regular season with an 11-5 record and in second place in the AFC East Division. The visiting Baltimore Ravens eliminated the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the playoffs, 20-3.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished the 2001 regular season with a 9-7 record and in third place in the NFC Central Division. The hometown Philadelphia Eagles eliminated the Buccaneers in the first round of the playoffs, 31-9.
THE LAST TIME THESE TWO TEAMS MET: The Bucs and Dolphins clashed at Raymond James Stadium nearly a year ago on Aug. 13, 2001. The Bucs were downed by the visiting Dolphins in that preseason matchup, 17-14.
BUCS-DOLPHINS SERIES: Miami is 12-4 against Tampa Bay in preseason games. The Dolphins have won three consecutive preseason games against the Buccaneers. The Dolphins lead the all-time regular season series with the Bucs, 4-3.
BUCS ON PRIME TIME Tampa Bay has posted an 11-13 record in games played in prime time. The Bucs are 10-6 at home and 1-7 on the road. The Buccaneers are 5-4 in games played on Monday night (4-1 at home, 1-3 on the road). Tampa Bay is 2-8 all-time in games played on ESPN.
