Bucs Post-Game Quotes

August 16 - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers downed the Jacksonville Jaguars in ALLTEL Stadium on Friday night, 20-0. Find out what some of Tampa Bay's players had to say after their impressive preseason victory.

BUCS RB MICHAEL PITTMAN ON HIS ANKLE SPRAIN:
"It's just real sore. I just have to work through it. I actually re-aggravated it and hopefully it's not too bad. I'll just try to practice on it tomorrow."

PITTMAN ON SNEAKING BACK INTO THE GAME AFTER HIS INJURY:
"Coach (Gruden) didn't want me to go back up in there, but I wanted to go back in there, so I just snuck in there on the next play. I'm not going to let a little sprain stop me from playing, but I have to get healed up before the season starts. I'm just looking to get better right now."

BUCS CB RONDE BARBER ON THE DEFENSE'S SHUTOUT:
"We're trying to get back to where we were. You know, 99' was a banner year for us. That's a standard we're trying to hold ourselves to. We've been working on that week in and week out, and we're getting better everyday."

BUCS WR FRANK MURPHY ON WHAT THE NAME OF THE DANCE WAS HE DID AFTER HE CAUGHT THE TOUCHDOWN PASS:
"It's called the Murph-time. It was just a little something for the fans to get them all hyped up."

BUCS DT CHUCK DARBY ON HIS 11-YARD SACK:
"I just kept working at it. I just have to keep working and take it stride for stride and day by day. I have a long way to go, so I have to keep on working daily."

MURPHY ON CATCHING A TOUCHDOWN IN FRONT OF HIS HOMETOWN:
"It really doesn't (get better than that). It was a blessing I was able to do that. Rob (Johnson) threw a good pass, the O-line did a good job and it was a team effort. I was just grateful that it came to me."

MURPHY ON THE TWO PASSES HE DROPPED TOWARD THE END OF THE FIRST HALF:
"I was just taking my eyes off of the ball and trying to make something happen. It's just a lesson. Hey, I have to keep my eyes on the ball. That's something I have to work on."

BUCS WR KEENAN McCARDELL ON RETURNING TO JACKSONVILLE:
"They (Jacksonville) are great fans. They know their football and they love their football. I was happy to be back and they welcomed me great."

BUCS DE ELLIS WYMS ON JACKSONVILLE'S TWO MISSED FIELD GOALS:
"It felt good. It was their last opportunity to put some points on the board, so we wanted to keep the shutout going. We had to get in there, work hard and get it timed right, and it worked out for us."

BUCS HEAD COACH JON GRUDEN ON THE PLAY OF HIS FIRST-TEAM OFFENSE:
"Anytime you can move the ball out of negative field position, it's big, especially when you're on the road. I thought Brad Johnson was sharp and Rob (Johnson) followed it up with good football."

GRUDEN ON TURNING 39 ON SATURDAY, AUG. 17:
"Well, I'm getting older here, but I'd rather get the wins. I'd rather add up the wins than my birthdays."

GRUDEN ON QB BRAD JOHNON'S PLAY VS. THE JAGUARS:
"I thought he did really good. We got the ball in a really tough situation near our own goal line, and Brad marched us down there (the field). Unfortunately, the penalty nullified what was a heckuva drive. I thought his next drive was very good, too. I think both of those drives lasted over 10 plays. They were time consuming and he converted third downs. He did what an NFL quarterback is supposed to do and that's move your team and makes plays, and that's what he did. I was impressed."

GRUDEN ON QB SHAUN KING'S PERFORMANCE:>
"Well, he struggled a little bit at first. He threw the interception and we fumbled the snap. But he regrouped and threw a decisive touchdown pass to Marquise Walker. I like Shaun King a lot. I like the look in his eye and I like the way he competes. He was in a tough situation at times tonight, but he rallied and helped us win this game."

GRUDEN ON THE PLAY OF HIS SPECIAL TEAMS UNIT:
"That was a great effort by our field goal block team. That was our base defense that was out there. We asked our guys to play with better pad level and get some push. We felt like we could block a kick this week. I tip my hat to Richard Bisaccia, our special teams coach. His presence has been felt here in the first two weeks."

GRUDEN ON HOW TOUGH IT WAS FOR THE BUCS TO PLAY TWO GAMES IN ONE WEEK:
"We talked about this (game) being a gut check. It's about mental toughness. One of these teams tonight had to drive on a bus three hours and had a short week. It was a hot day and we sat in the locker room for three hours before the game. It's been a long day for the Buccaneers, but these guys responded."
