"He (Washington) had a little soreness in his knee, so we held him out," said Gruden. "He didn't think he could practice, so he'll hopefully be better this evening and can go tomorrow. But we don't think it's anything serious. It's just a little sore."
Washington has been playing at right guard in place of second-year starter Cosey Coleman, who suffered a knee injury during the Bucs' first preseason game against Miami, which will keep him sidelined for at least three more weeks.
In other injury news, running back Michael Pittman went full-speed in practice on Monday afternoon. While the players sported shorts in a non-contact practice, Gruden was happy with Pittman's progress.
"Pittman practiced this afternoon and looked good," said Gruden. I think he's making real good progress and we're excited to have him back out here."
The Bucs ended the afternoon practice about 30 minutes early due to rain.
