Pewter Report MVP: DE Ron Warner

August 24 - There weren't a lot of bright spots in Tampa Bay's 40-10 loss to Washington at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday night, but one of them was backup defensive end Ron Warner, who recorded five tackles and one sack against the Redskins. Warner is the Pewter Player of the Game.

There were few bright spots in Tampa Bay's 40-10 big loss to the Washington Redskins, but one of them was the play of reserve defensive end Ron Warner, who finished the game with five tackles and a sack and is this week's Pewter Player of the Game.

Warner sacked Washington's rookie quarterback Patrick Ramsey in the second half on a strong outside rush and came close to sharing a sack with fellow defensive end Greg Spires. Warner also had a sack last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars and leads the Bucs in the preseason with two.

Warner, who is in his second training camp with the Bucs, is coming off a summer in which he led NFL Europe with six sacks. He's fighting for a roster spot, and the injury to defensive end Marcus Jones on Saturday might actually help his cause.
