Pewter Report MVP: WR Karl Williams

August 30 - Pewter Report has selected Buccaneers wide receiver Karl Williams as the Pewter Player of the Game against Houston. The veteran receiver stepped in the second half and makd several big plays while other Bucs dropped the ball.

Tampa Bay coach and offensive playcaller Jon Gruden was looking for someone to step up and make a play on offense. His offense was lifeless against Houston's 3-4 defense, and if not for scores by the defense and special teams, Tampa Bay would have lost to Houston.

In the third quarter, veteran receiver Karl Williams showed why he's hung around the NFL for six years, and figures to make the Bucs' roster for a seventh. Williams made a diving 18-yard catch of a Shaun King pass to get the Bucs out of the shadow of their own end zone. Later in the same drive, Williams made a touchdown-saving tackle of CB Kevin Williams at the Bucs' 23 after he picked off King at the 47. The Texans had to settle for a field goal. Williams had three catches for 42 yards, and unlike Aaron Lockett, didn't fair catch a ball on his own 3-yard line.
