Bucs Claim FB Barnes, Release LB Smith

September 2 - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made two roster moves on Monday. The team claimed fullback Darian Barnes off of waivers from the New York Giants. In order to make room for Barnes on its 53-man roster, the Buccaneers released linebacker Justin Smith.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers claimed fullback Darian Barnes off of waivers from the New York Giants on Monday afternoon.

Barnes (6-2, 250) played collegiately at Hampton and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Giants on July 25. He hauled in four passes for 15 yards during the 2002 preseason. Barnes was released by New York on Sunday.

In order to make room for Barnes on the team's 53-man roster, Tampa Bay released linebacker Justin Smith.
