"This is a very tough way, obviously, to lose a football game. We're pleased the way our team came back and get us a chance to win. We didn't take advantage of some opportunities that were presented to us as players and as coaches. I'd like to tip my hat to the Saints. They came in here and played a very inspired game."
Gruden on the poor play of the offensive line:
"With out a doubt that was an issue. When you get in that kind of game, running two minute drills at the end of the first half and almost the entire fourth quarter, pass protection is a vital aspect in what we're trying to accomplish. At times we picked up the blitz. At other times we weren't as stout as we should have been. We have to do a better job in that area."
Gruden on the play of the special teams:
"We had a couple of breakdowns on special teams. We had a field goal blocked, we couldn't get a punt off in a desperate situation, we had a punt long punt return called back for holding in the overtime. Even though those plays are not on the stat sheet they're very costly."
Gruden on QB Brad Johnson's play:
"I thought he was super. I thought he hung in there in some really tough situations. We took a couple of penalties that hurt us in the areas of down and distance. And that plays right into the hands of this Saints team. If you notice, they have led this league in sacks the past couple of years. They give you a lot of nickle pressure and an assortment of other looks. He stood in there and made some brilliant plays to put us in a position to win."
Gruden on the last play of the game:
"On that punt, we had pressure from our right side. There was some discussion on whether the Saints were offsides on that play. Whether it was or wasn't we got beat on the right side and it was costly."
QB Brad Johnson on the play of the offensive line:
"Those guys worked hard, you know. There were a lot of mistakes across the board. I made as many mistakes as the guys up front. When you make critical errors, everyone looks bad. For the most part, the guys up front gave me time to throw, but the Saints had coverage to where I had to throw the ball away. I threw it away at least 15 or 20 times. I probably set a record."
RB Michael Pittman on the Saints:
"They didn¹t do anything we didn¹t prepare for. I give credit to their defense, they played a great game. But we didn¹t play up to our potential."
Todd Washington on being penalized:
"I didn¹t hear a whistle. I saw a guy trying to jump on the pile late and I did my job. They are going to say the play was over, but it wasn't over. You can¹t argue with the ref and you can¹t fight city hall. I'm going to make sure I don't do it again."
RB Mike Alstott on not touching the ball in the first half:
"I don¹t want to get into that."
S John Lynch on the overtime:
"When you get the kickoff and get a nice return, you like your chances. Overtime is usually a matter of field position and we didn¹t take advantage. Next thing you know we¹re pinned on our 6 yard line and the Saints make a big defensive play."
P Tom Tupa on the blocked punt:
"I don¹t really know what happened out there. All I know is when I went to punt the ball there's someone standing right in front of me. I was trying to get around him but he wrapped me up. After a long game, it's ridiculous to lose like that. It is uncalled for."
