Gruden works out ND's Quinn

As the days wind down toward the 2007 NFL Draft, Bucs head coach Jon Gruden used a weekend trip to South Bend, Ind., to personally work out quarterback Brady Quinn.

Tampa Bay head coach Jon Gruden used an appearance at a weekend football camp in South Bend, Ind., to conduct a personal workout with Irish quarterback Brady Quinn, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The Buccaneers have the No. 4 pick in the draft and most believe the team will use that selection on Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who worked out for Gruden late last week in Atlanta.

But Gruden, who went to high school in South Bend, played quarterback at Dayton University and has an affinity for the position. He has also publicly said the position needs a big-time performer, one that can stabilize the position for the next decade. Tampa Bay has gone through a litany of starting quarterbacks since Gruden arrived in 2003. The Bucs used three different starters last year.

Quinn, whose value has now stabilized after an up-and-down period after the season, is considered the most NFL-ready quarterback in the draft.
