Jon Gruden Transcript — Dec. 14

Here is the complete post-practice transcript for Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden for Friday, Dec. 14, 2007:

On Ike Hilliard's status

We'll list him as probable. He's shown some steady improvement. We're encouraged by that.

On if he sees Greg Spires getting in after being full go recently

I'll make that decision when we announce our deactivations Sunday afternoon.

On if he thinks B.J. Askew will play

We're going to list him as questionable. He's been questionable, and he goes out and works out before the game. If you've been there, you've seen that. That whole act is hard on him, and we'll see what happens.

On if he'll miss Jerramy Stevens this week

We'll miss him. We'll miss him a lot. He's a key component here. He gives us a joker-type receiver tight end. He's a guy that's a threat, and when you lose a guy that's a threat, you lose a threat, and that's not good.

On Askew fighting through the ankle injury

It's a credit to him and it's also a concern of ours. I guess that's the best way to put it.

On if Crockett is ready to go if needed

He's done a good job. He's got retention. He was here earlier, and he has some background in our offense. I guess he's ready to go, yes.

On Micheal Spurlock's play as a punt returner

I didn't like the last punt, where obviously we were going for the block and it was misjudged and we gave up a lot of yardage there. But I thought he fielded it good, and I will say to you I was a bit nervous there on the first punt. We've had so many guys back there this season, it's somewhat pleasing to see a guy go back there and make some plays for us.

On how he feels Spurlock has done

I thought he's done OK. He made a nice return last week getting really good yardage out of it. He seems to be confident back there. He judges the ball with no wasted motion, and he's taking care of the ball, which is the No. 1 thing we're looking for at this point in time.
