Bucs-Panthers Injury Report

October 25 – PewterReport.com has the latest news on the Buccaneers' injury front. Seven Bucs players are in the infirmary, but only two are doubtful for Sunday's game. Find out which team is in better shape heading into Sunday's Bucs-Panthers game in Charlotte. In other news, Tampa Bay DT Warren Sapp's sack total was reduced by a half-sack Friday. Find out why in this report.

Seven Tampa Bay players are on the Buccaneers' injury report, but just two of them are listed as doubtful for Sunday's game at Carolina. Bucs quarterback Brad Johnson and wide receiver Keenan McCardell won't likely play against the Panthers.

Bucs cornerback Brian Kelly and defensive tackle Warren Sapp were recently added to the team's injury report. Kelly is suffering from a knee contusion and Sapp has a sore knee. Both players are listed as probable for Sunday and are expected to play.

"We just limited (Kelly) a little bit," said Bucs head coach Jon Gruden. "He's got a sore leg. He'll play. Dwight Smith returned to practice today, which is exciting. Brad Johnson and McCardell did not practice; their status is unchanged."

Bucs second-string QB Rob Johnson will start against the Panthers. His backup will likely be QB Shaun King, but the team is hoping Brad Johnson will be able to at least serve as the emergency quarterback.

"As it appears right now, Shaun King is the backup quarterback," said Gruden. "We're hopeful that Brad can be the third quarterback, suited up and inactive for the game. That looks like an optimistic and realistic goal at this time."

The Buccaneers and Panthers will clash at 1:00 p.m. ET. Sunday at Ericsson Stadium.

In other news, Tampa Bay DT Warren Sapp had his sack total on the season reduced from seven to 6.5 by the Elias Sports Bureau. It was first thought that Sapp had recorded a sack on Eagles QB Donovan McNabb last Sunday, but after further review, ESB took a half-sack away from Sapp and gave it to Bucs defensive end Ellis Wyms.

Sapp's new sack total (6.5) still ranks first on the team and third in the NFL. Wyms now has 3.5 sacks on the season.
