The Bucs filled Nece's spot on its 53-man roster by signing third-year tight end Casey Crawford from its practice squad. Crawford (6-foot-6, 255-pounds) was signed to the Bucs' practice squad on September 10 after being released by Carolina on Sept. 1.
While the team hopes Crawford can be as productive on special teams as Nece was, the Bucs may also give him some playing time on offense. Pewter Report has mentioned over the past several weeks that Tampa Bay has been unhappy with Rickey Dudley's blocking on both special teams and at the tight end position.
Crawford will sport jersey number 89.
In addition to those two roster moves, the Buccaneers signed center/guard Jason Scukanec (6-2, 305) to its five-man roster. Scukanec, who played collegiately at BYU, entered the National Football League as an undrafted free agent with Denver last April. He was released by the Broncos on April 27 but signed with the team's practice squad on Sept. 4 before being released on Sept. 17.
