The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have locked up their second defensive end of the 2008 free-agent period, as they have agreed in principle on a four-year contract with San Francisco defensive end Marques Douglas.

At 6-foot-2, 292 pounds, Douglas would fit the part of a left end in Tampa Bay's Cover 2 defense, where larger defensive ends are counted on to help stop the run.

The Bucs did not make an official announcement.

Douglas began his career in Baltimore as an undrafted free agent in 2000 and went to San Francisco three years ago, where he re-joined his former Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, now the head coach in San Francisco.

Douglas met with the Buccaneers last week.

Douglas was fourth in the NFL last year in tackles with loss with 12, an aspect of the defense the Buccaneers want to improve in 2008.

He also registered three sacks, 100 tackles and 16 quarterback pressures last year.

The Bucs earlier this month signed former Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Jimmy Wilkerson.

The Bucs created room to make signings on the left side of the defensive line after releasing defensive ends Greg Spires and Kevin Carter before free agency began. There is belief that the Bucs are interested in re-signing Carter, who met with the Raiders earlier this week.
