The National Football League today announced that Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Derrick Brooks was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week and K Matt Bryant was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 4.
After suffering a horrible tragedy earlier in the week with the passing of his three-month old son, Tryson, Bryant was a perfect 3-of-3 on field goal attempts (23, 36, and 24 yards) and converted all three PATs in the Buccaneers 31-20 win over the Green Bay Packers. Trailing Green Bay 21-20 with 2:26 remaining in the fourth quarter, Bryant kicked a 24-yard field goal, his third of the day, giving Tampa Bay the lead for good. Bryant is 8-of-8 on field goal attempts and 12-of-12 on PATs this season. It is the second time in his career that Bryant has earned Player of the Week honors with the Buccaneers and fourth time overall.
This marks the 23rd time a Buccaneer has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week and the 32nd time a Buccaneer has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week. It is also the fifth time in franchise history that two players have earned Player of the Week honors in the same week.
