Bucs Place McFarland On Injured Reserve

December 17 – As expected, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed defensive tackle Anthony McFarland, who fractured his foot against Detroit last Sunday, on the injured reserve on Tuesday. In other news, the Bucs signed linebacker Idris Price to its five-man practice squad. In order to make room for Price, the team released safety Dwayne Stukes.

In an anticipated move, Tampa Bay placed defensive nose tackle Anthony McFarland on the injured reserve Tuesday, which ended his season.

McFarland, who suffered a fractured foot against Detroit last Sunday, started 10 games in 2002 and recorded 32 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one pass defensed. He will be replaced by backup DT Chartric Darby, who filled in for "Booger" earlier in the season when he was sidelined with a fractured forearm.

By placing McFarland on the IR, the team has a spot open on its 53-man roster. The Bucs will likely wait to see what kind of progress its other injured players make during the week before they fill that vacancy.

In other news, the Buccaneers signed linebacker Idris Price to its five-man practice squad. In order to make room for Price, the team released safety Dwayne Stukes from its practice roster.

Price entered the National Football League as an undrafted free agent out of the University of New Haven with the New York Jets last April. At New Haven, he recorded 157 tackles and 7.5 sacks in two seasons.

Stukes originally signed with Tampa Bay's practice squad on September 4 and had three outings on that roster this season.
