Bucs React To Winning NFC South Division Title

December 22 – Tampa Bay won the NFC South Division title Sunday after New Orleans lost to Cincinnati. It's the Bucs' fourth division title in franchise history. Pewter Report has Tampa Bay's reaction to winning the first-ever NFC South Division championship.

The 11-3 Buccaneers won the 2002 NFC South Division title Sunday after the Saints were downed by the Bengals, 20-13.

Not only did Tampa Bay win the first-ever NFC South Division title, but it's the team's fourth division championship in franchise history. The Bucs had captured the NFC Central Division title in 1979, 1981 and 1999.

PewterReport.com has Tampa Bay's reaction to winning the NFC South Division title.

Bucs General Manager Rich McKay:
"It is a credit to the coaching staff and the players that in a year in which we underwent pretty significant change, they were able to pick right up where we left off last year and even improve upon it by winning the championship. It is not easily done. Jon Gruden and his staff deserve a lot of credit for that, as do the players, who had to adopt a new approach and some new schemes on offense. To win only the fourth division title ever is impressive."

Tampa Bay Head Coach Jon Gruden:
"I am very proud of our team and our coaches. I am still focused on the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it is a great accomplishment to win the first NFC South title."

Bucs Linebacker Derrick Brooks:
"We're very grateful to win the NFC South, but at the same time, obviously, our goal is on securing homefield advantage. We got into the playoffs, won the division and now we can focus on homefield advantage."

Bucs Wide Receiver Keyshawn Johnson:
"This is the first division title that I have won since 1998, so it is extremely exciting. I think there is a lot more work to be done, including Monday Night's game against Pittsburgh to continue our quest to get to the Super Bowl. I thought it was a strong division this year, but on paper we were supposed to run away with it, but at the end of the day we lost two games to one team - New Orleans - and we swept the other two teams. It goes to show you Atlanta and New Orleans are really good teams and Carolina had an up and down year because of injuries and for other reasons, but they are going to be a great team for a long time. It's going to be one of those divisions to be reckoned with like the AFC West."

Tampa Bay Safety John Lynch:
"It's a tremendous accomplishment, considering it ended up being one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. But in saying that, this not where our goal ends. We still have a lot of work left to do."
