Bucs Q&A: Luke McCown

For the first time, Luke McCown enters training camp with a legitimate shot to win the starting quarterback job. In this conversation, McCown talks about the intensity of the competition and how a fast start can help him win the job. Plus, look for Q&As from his competition, Byron Leftwich and Josh Freeman, in the coming days only at Bucsblitz.com.

Q: What do you think about the intensity of this quarterback race?

A: Oh it will be intense because everybody wants to play. It is going to be a lot of fun though. We are all here to win. We are all here to get on the field, play and produce for this team. What it is about is each of us getting ready to do whatever we have to do to help this team win. That is the goal we need to have. We have individual goals such as being a starter, but it is about helping this team win.

Q: You always come to camp thinking you can win the job, but for you personally is this a little different?

A: Yeah it is. You go to camp every year preparing to be the starter, but it is different when someone says that you really have a chance this year. There is a little added emphasis for me. I wouldn't say there is any more for me then anyone else, but it means a lot to me that I am getting that opportunity. I am going to do everything I can to win the job.

Q: Does walking into this building make you feel like you are at Training Camp?

A: It is a little different. Going to the hotel today instead of going over to Celebration was a little different. Disney was great to us, but I think it is going to be good having camp here. When I was in Cleveland my rookie year, we had it in our own facility. It is a little easier on everyone's body. You get out of meetings a little sooner. You get an opportunity to see your family maybe a little bit more. You get a little more quality downtime. I think it is going to help

Q: If they start making a decision on who the quarterback will be in the next two weeks, does that means you have to take advantage of the short time you have to prove yourself?

A: Yeah absolutely. You have to start making your case tomorrow. That is what I am going to look to do.
