Dates To Remember

January 30 – The 2002 football season is over and the offseason is officially upon us. PewterReport.com has logged some important dates for fans to remember as they follow the Tampa Bay Buccaneers through the offseason, which has proved to be quite exciting in recent years.

FEBRUARY:

Feb. 2 Pro Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Feb. 18-24 Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Feb. 20 Deadline for teams to designate franchise and transition players.

Feb. 24 NFL Europe League training camps begin.

Feb. 27 Deadline for submission of qualifying offer by teams to their restricted free agents whose contracts have expired and to whom they desire to retain a right of first refusal/compensation.

Feb. 27 Deadline for teams to submit offer of minimum salary to retain negotiating rights to their players with fewer than three seasons of free agency credit whose contracts have expired.

Feb. 28 Veteran free-agency signing period begins.

Feb. 28 Trading period begins.


MARCH:

March 23-26 NFL Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona.


APRIL:

April 1 Approximate date in which the NFL's entire 2003 regular season schedule is released.

April 5 NFL Europe League season starts.

April 18 Signing period ends for restricted free agents.

April 25 Deadline for old team to exercise right of first refusal to restricted free agents.

April 26-27 NFL Draft in New York City, New York.


MAY:

May 20-21 NFL Spring Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.


JUNE:

June 1 Deadline for old teams to send tender to unsigned unrestricted free agents to receive exclusive negotiating rights for the rest of the season if the player is not signed by another club by July 22.

June 1 Deadline for old clubs to send tender to unsigned restricted free agents or to extend qualifying offer to retain exclusive negotiating rights.

June 8 NFL Europe League regular season ends.

June 14 World Bowl XI in Glasgow, Scottland.

June 15 Deadline for old teams to withdraw original offer to unsigned restricted free agents and still retain exclusive negotiating rights by substituting tender of 100 percent of previous year's salary.


JULY:

July 1 Some teams opt to release players in salary cap maneuvers.

July 22 Signing period ends at 4:00 p.m. for unrestricted free agents who received June 1 tender.


AUGUST:

Aug. 4 Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio: Green Bay vs. Kansas City.


SEPTEMBER:

Sept. 6-7 NFL Regular Season Kickoff Weekend.
