Bucs Announce 2003 Preseason Opponents

February 11 - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced its five preseason opponents for the 2003 season. The Bucs will open the preseason against the New York Jets in the American Bowl in Tokyo, Japan. The Pewter Pirates will then play two consecutive road contests -- at St. Louis and at Miami. Tampa Bay will conclude the preseason at home against Jacksonville and Houston.

The Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced its opponents for the 2003 preseason. The Bucs will play a total of five preseason contests for the second time in six years.

The Bucs' first game will be in the American Bowl when they travel to Tokyo, Japan to play the New York Jets. The Bucs-Jets contest, which will be played on Hall of Fame Weekend (August 2-4), will mark the first time Tampa Bay has ever played an international game.

Tampa Bay will then travel to Miami to play the Dolphins (Aug. 7-11). The Bucs and Dolphins have clashed in preseason in nine out of the last 10 seasons.

In Week 2 of the preseason (Aug. 14-18), Tampa Bay will play its third consecutive road preseason game, facing the St. Louis Rams. It will mark the first time Tampa Bay and St. Louis play each other in an exhibition game.

Tampa Bay will play its first home exhibition game of the '03 season in Week 3 when Jacksonville visits Raymond James Stadium (Aug. 21-25). The Bucs downed the Jaguars in preseason last year, 20-0. Tampa Bay and Jacksonville will also meet in Jacksonville during the regular season.

The Bucs will conclude its '03 preseason schedule the week of Aug. 28-31 against the Texans in Ray-Jay. Tampa Bay and Houston played each other in a preseason contest last year. The Bucs downed the Texans in that contest, 17-13. Tampa Bay will play Houston again during the regular season.

Times and dates for all five of Tampa Bay's preseason contests will be announced at a later date. The National Football League will release the 2003 regular season schedule in late March or early April.
