Tampa Bay was one of several teams to interview University of Miami running back Willis McGehee at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana on Wednesday.
McGehee, who just completed his sophomore season with the Hurricanes, had surgery on January 12 to repair two torn knee ligaments he suffered in the National Championship Game against Ohio State.
McGehee would have likely been a top 10 pick in the first round of April's NFL Draft, but his knee injury has some projecting McGehee could go as high as the second round.
Oakland has Tampa Bay's first round draft pick from the trade for head coach Jon Gruden. The Bucs have the 32nd (64th overall) pick in the second round of April's NFL Draft.
Bucs Are Not Expected To Franchise Any Players:
Thursday is the final day NFL teams can place a franchise tag or transition tag on any free agents-to-be. The Bucs are not expected to place a franchise or transition tag on any of its free agents-to-be, including free safety Dexter Jackson and middle linebacker Shelton Quarles.
Bucs' Giemont Named Coach Of The Year:
Tampa Bay strength and conditioning coordinator Garrett Giemont, who the Bucs hired last week after the team fired Johnny Parker, was named Coach of the Year by The Professional Football Strength and Conditioning Society on Thursday.
Giemont joined Tampa Bay's staff on Feb. 13 after he filled a position in the same capacity for eight seasons with the Oakland Raiders.
Giemont will be honored at the 12th annual Emrich-Riecke-Jones Awards Banquet on Friday, Feb. 21, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Bucs Promote Kamis And Bolno:
Tampa Bay promoted Jeff Kamis to director of communications and named Zack Bolno communications manager.
Kamis filled the position filled by Reggie Roberts, who was fired before the start of training camp last year.
