The Cardinals are feeling good about themselves heading into the bye.
They are alone in first place of the NFC West at 3-2, and they feel they can get much better.
The club has yet to put together a complete game on both sides of the ball, and quarterback Max Hall is coming off his first start.
"We're just a hard-nosed team that when we get our backs to the wall, we're not going to curl up and die," center Lyle Sendlein said.
The Cardinals' two losses -- to the Falcons and Chargers -- were ugly. They gave up 41 points in each game and scored a total of one offensive touchdown. They were fortunate in two victories, holding on to beat the Rams and the Raiders.
They played their best game Sunday, beating the Saints 30-20, but it was far from perfect.
"We're pleased to be 3-2 here at the bye," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "We obviously would like to be better, but considering our two losses, we'll definitely take it."
Hall's arrival in the starting lineup is just one reason for hope. Even though he threw an interception and could have lost two fumbles, he improved as the game progressed, completing nine of 12 passes in the second half.
He was able to get the ball consistently to receiver Larry Fitzgerald, something his predecessor, Derek Anderson, could not do.
"What I sense from Max is that he'll get better," Whisenhunt said. "What I also like is his understanding of what's going on. A couple of times when we made mistakes, he came off the field saying, 'Why wasn't this guy here?' To me, that shows a guy who's dialed in."
