Cardinals: Week 16 News & Notes

Injuries are mounting for the Cardinals with just two weeks remaining in a disappointing season.

--Receiver Steve Breaston recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown Sunday, giving the Cardinals seven fumble recoveries for touchdowns this year. They have 10 returns for touchdowns this season, a franchise record.

--WR Larry Fitzgerald passed the 8,000-yard mark in receiving last week. At 27, he's the second-youngest player to reach that milestone, behind Randy Moss, who was 26 when he did it. Fitzgerald also caught his 600th pass, the youngest receiver in NFL history to reach that mark. Fitzgerald, however, has called this his most frustrating season and is trying to avoid finishing 5-11 or worse. That's the worst record the Cardinals have had since drafting him in 2004. "There's another milestone I hit," said Fitzgerald, referring to the team's 10th loss. "The worst I've been is (5-11); I just want to win two more ball games. That's my focus at this point. It's been a rough year."

--The Cardinals weren't especially embarrassed losing to the Panthers, who had won only one game before last week. "We saw them on tape and knew they were going to play hard," said safety Kerry Rhodes. "They were 1-12 and we aren't that much better. You can't really talk about that."

--LB Reggie Walker made a costly mistake in the third quarter when he roughed the Carolina punter. Walker had a shot at blocking the punt but took a bad angle and approached too quickly. "That was so ridiculous," Walker said. "I came in too out of control. I could have blocked it. They (coaches) didn't even need to say anything. It was just horrible."

--QB Derek Anderson has missed the past two weeks with concussion symptoms. Anderson's condition has improved but he's still experiencing headaches after physical activity.

--OLB Joey Porter has a right triceps injury that could end his season. Porter was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday. If he is out, rookie O'Brien Schofield will start.

--WR Early Doucet suffered a hip flexor injury and was due to undergo an MRI on Monday. There is no word on the severity of the injury.

--RB LaRod Stephens-Howling missed the second half after aggravating a strained hamstring. Coaches don't believe it's serious but he will be limited in practice this week.

--DE Calais Campbell played perhaps his best game of the season in Carolina. He had 11 tackles, including a sack and four tackles for losses. Nine of his tackles were solos.
