The Cardinals had a private workout with QB Blaine Gabbert March 23, and in attendance was owner Bill Bidwill and his son, club president Michael Bidwill.
The group, which also included general manager Rod Graves, coach Ken Whisenhunt and director of player personnel Steve Keim, also had dinner with Gabbert the night before the workout.
Quarterback: The level of need for this position depends upon negotiations for the CBA. If the lockout continues, then the Cardinals might have to take a quarterback higher than they want, just to cover themselves for 2011. Coaches like what they saw out of John Skelton as a rookie last year, and they think Rich Bartel can be a solid No. 3. What the team needs is a reliable starter, which it would prefer to find in free agency or via trade.
Inside linebacker: The team needs a thumper inside to bolster the run defense. Paris Lenon is a solid veteran but probably better on the weak side. Gerald Hayes, the starter for most of the past five seasons, probably will be released.
Guard: Left guard Alan Faneca is considering retirement and right guard Deuce Lutui is unsigned and could hit free agency. There are a couple of veterans who could step in, Jeremy Bridges and Rex Hadnot, but the team needs to begin developing some young inside linemen.
