Cardinals: Latest News, Notes & Quotes

The Cardinals are now left searching for depth and running back and cornerback, and might be forced to count on a handful of younger players.

--The team will continue to search for a running back to replace backup Ryan Williams, who is out for the season with a torn patellar tendon. They don't have much depth behind Beanie Wells.

--NT David Carter is pushing former first-round pick Dan Williams. Carter, a sixth-round pick from UCLA, has played very well while Williams has struggled to get in shape.

-- SS Adrian Wilson practiced last week for the first time since suffering a torn biceps tendon on Aug. 6. Wilson isn't participating in contact drills.

-- CB Patrick Peterson returned a punt 23 yards and returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown. Those plays showed why the Cardinals drafted him fifth overall.

-- TE Rob Housler, the third-round pick, didn't play last week because of a groin strain. Housler has played well in the preseason.

-- RB Beanie Wells has improved every game in the preseason. He had 10 carries for 63 yards against the Chargers. Wells, however, keeps getting tripped up, ruining big play chances. He thinks he's just a small step away from breaking some big ones.

-- WR Larry Fitzgerald's 80-yard touchdown reception against the Chargers was his longest at University of Phoenix Stadium. It didn't count in the record books, which include only regular-season and postseason marks, and it was only Fitzgerald's second touchdown in preseason play.

-- CB Greg Toler has a sprained ACL, and will miss the entire 2011 season.
