Whisenhunt building his own legacy in Arizona

Coach Ken Whisehunt is building a legacy and All-Pro wideout Larry Fitzgerald continues to help lead the way.

-- Coach Ken Whisenhunt has won 36 games in four seasons, including playoff games. He needs seven victories to pass Don Coryell for the most wins by a coach in Cardinals history. This is Whisenhunt's fifth season. He joins Vince Tobin as the only Arizona Cardinals coaches to enter their fifth seasons. Tobin was fired midway through his fifth year.

COACHING: Ken Whisenhunt, 5th year, 5th with the Cardinals (36-34).

REMEMBERING: 2010 record: 5-11 record (4th in NFC West).

PREDICTING: 2011 regular season record 7-9 (2nd in NFC West).

-- Larry Fitzgerald's 80-yard touchdown reception last week against the Chargers was his longest in the NFL, although it didn't count. It also was just the second preseason touchdown for Fitzgerald in eight NFL seasons.

-- P Ben Graham has some competition. The Cardinals signed Dave Zastudil, a 10-year veteran, a week ago.

"We weren't as good in a lot of areas last year," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "That was definitely one of the areas where we weren't up to our standards."

Graham's gross average fell from 47 yards to 43.4 yards last year, and his net average declined from 40.6 yards to 36.6 yards. Graham will likely hold on to the job, but it's not a given.

--Guard Rex Hadnot was a senior at the University of Houston when Kevin Kolb entered as a freshman. He has seen first-hand how Kolb can help a team coming off a losing season. In Kolb's first season, the Cougars went to a bowl game.

"I couldn't tell you what it is about him," Hadnot said. "His parents have instilled something in him for him to be able to come into a situation, adapt and achieve great success.

"When I heard about the acquisition, I was excited."

BY THE NUMBERS: 294 -- The number of receiving yards Larry Fitzgerald needs to pass Roy Green to become the franchise's all time leader. He also needs two touchdowns to pass Green to become first in that category. Already the franchise leader in receptions, Fitzgerald has 8,204 receiving yards and 65 touchdowns. He turned 28 on Aug. 31.
