Arizona adds David Johnson to run game

The Arizona Cardinals' patience paid off as the team managed to select RB David Johnson in the third round of the NFL Draft.

The Arizona Cardinals version of thunder and lightening will come in the form of RBs David Johnson and Andre Ellington.

Johnson, who played collegiately at Northern Iowa, was selected by the Cardinals in the third round of the NFL Draft and will provide much needed help in the run game.

Johnson is a dynamic weapon out of the backfield with the ability to both run and catch. In a game earlier this season against Iowa, Johnson racked up 203 yards receiving, beating the Hawkeyes defense routinely.

During his career with the Panthers, John totaled 4,682 yards rushing and 1,734 yards receiving to go along with 63 total touchdowns.

Arizona knew it needed to secure a running back in this year's draft but the timing was crucial. This year's class of running backs was extremely deep and talented and the Cardinals' patience paid off in waiting to Round 3 and nabbing Johnson.

Johnson and Ellington are expected to split time out of the Arizona backfield in 2015 but if Johnson displays the skill set to be an every-down back he could end up starting with Ellington serving as a change-of-pace back.
