TE Darren Fells is a relative unknown at a position that is thought to be a major liability for the Arizona Cardinals this season.
That liability, however, might just turn into a major weapon in 2015.
Fells might be the one to emerge from a group of lackluster tight ends in Arizona and has the pedigree and background that makes sense.
Fells, a former professional basketball player in the mold of San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates, is considered more of a blocking tight end as this point but the Cardinals will need a receiving threat to supplement an impressive wide receiving group at some point this season.
Following the surprising retirement of TE John Carlson the cupboard was left bare at the position but Fells is one to watch as a potential long-term solution at the position.
Other candidates include second-year TE Troy Niklas and rookie Gerald Christian, a seventh-round pick from this year's draft.
While the comparison to Gates is a bit premature, Fells is one to keep an eye on as a breakout performer in 2015.
Is Darren Fells the next Antonio Gates?
