Cards' Peterson looks to bounce back in 2015

Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson had a down year in 2014 and is looking for a bounce back this season.

2015 Player Profile: CB Patrick Peterson

The Arizona Cardinals' defense isn’t overly dominating but it does feature some terrific playmakers.

That starts in the secondary with CB Patrick Peterson along with safeties Tyrann Mathieu and Deone Bucannon. The Cardinals struggled to rush opposing quarterbacks a year ago, but have upgraded in that department. Look for Arizona to get back to ball-hawking in the secondary and making big plays.

Arizona’s defense starts and ends with Peterson, one the NFL’s top cover cornerbacks. Peterson’s struggles were well documented a year ago, but an upgraded pass-rushing unit should benefit Peterson and the rest of the Cardinals secondary.

Peterson's production has declined over the past three seasons. After intercepting seven passes and defending 16 passes in 2012, Peterson's output has slipped to three interceptions in each of the past two seasons.

Furthermore, his passes defended has declined to 13 in 2013 and only seven in 2014. This could be attributed to opposing quarterbacks not throwing in Peterson's direction, but that hasn't been the case as team's haven't shied away from his side of the field.

Peterson struggled at times in 2014 but still remains as the Cardinals’ marquee player. Peterson was tabbed as the NFL’s next shutdown corner prior to lackluster campaign a year ago, but look for him to bounce back in 2015.
