The Arizona Cardinals want first-round draft pick D.J. Humphries to contribute as soon as possible, but it's not his time quite yet.
Starting RT Bobby Massie is expected to be suspended for the first three games of the season, thanks to a DUI arrest last year. The Cardinals inserted Bradley Sowell for the time being to fill the void - instead of Humphries.
Bruce Arians and company might be reluctant to hand the starting job to Humphries just yet, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him in the starting lineup come the regular season opener.
The remainder of training camp and the preseason will likely determine who ultimately gets the job.
If Humphries wins and grades out well, Massie might be out of luck when he returns from the suspension.
Humphries was expected to contend for a spot on the first team offense at some point, and Massie's absence could open the door for Humphries to seize the opportunity and not look back.
Sowell, not Humphries, to man RT for Cards
