It could be only a matter of time before Andre Ellington re-stakes his claim as the Arizona Cardinals’ starting running back. Ellington racked up 61 yards on just five carries while adding 27 yards receiving on three receptions.
Ellington lost the job earlier this season as he was dealing with injuries – something that’s plagued him throughout his NFL career. Chris Johnson was the beneficiary of Ellington’s time away and has remained the team’s starting running back throughout the first half of the season.
Johnson’s production, however, is sputtering while Ellington appears to just be catching his stride.
In Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, Ellington tallied three more yards on 20 fewer carries. Ellington also displayed his game-breaking ability with a 48-yard touchdown run that all but sealed the victory for the Cardinals.
If Ellington is able to remain healthy, look for him to become more involved in the Arizona offense going forward. If that scenario pans out and Johnson continues to struggle, don’t be surprised to see Ellington return as the Cardinals’ starting running back.
