Failed Physicals Lead to Waiver Wire

It hasn't changed since you were in high school. If you can't pass the physical, you can't play. Four Cardinals couldn't pass this week, and for two it meant their next stop was the waiver wire. For two others though, the Physically Unable to Perform list was their destination.

The Arizona Cardinals started the process of whittling down the roster by waiving two players and placing two others on the 'Physically Unable to Perform' (PUP) list this week.

Tackle Dante Ellington (Alabama) and wide receiver Zamir Cobb (Temple) were both waived outright this week after failing to pass their physicals.  Both players will likely become free agents.

Meanwhile running back James Hodgins (San Jose State) and defensive end Anton Palepoi (UNLV) were both placed on the PUP list after they too failed their physicals.  By placing those two players on the PUP list, it allows the Cardinals to hold onto them and re-activate them if they choose after Week 6 of the season.  Both players count on the 'Active Players' list, and may be waived at any time, but by placing them on Physically Unable to Perform the Cardinals do not lose them for the entire season, as they would if they were placed on Injured Reserve.
