First, rumor news. Former Arizona QB Josh McCown likely will get a change of climate soon, as Scout.com is reporting that the Oakland Raiders are close to acquiring McCown from the Lions. Scout is also reporting the Baltimore Ravens have informed Central Michigan tackle Joe Staley that if he is still available at #29 he'll get the gift of not having to line up opposite Ray Lewis on Sundays.
Back to the Cardinals though. With Jon Beason gone to the Carolina Panthers, the Cardinals remain focused on Michigan defensive tackle Alan Branch. A source inside the Cardinal organization calls Branch's physical tools "perfect" for the hybrid 3/4-4/3 scheme Ken Whisenhunt plans to employ.
Apparently though he may not be there. The Chicago Bears could be looking at Branch as a option in their continuing quest to stockpile defensive lineman, opening the door for the Cardinals to start looking at Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny as a solution to the question of who will be that true linebacker in the middle. Unfortunately reports have the New England Patriots interested in Posluszny.
Still, the cornerback position is one in which the Cardinals are looking for some who is at least close to a finished product, and Chris Houston is the best cornerback left on the board.
