Cards Look to Beef Up Revamped D-Line

With the defensive line in flux and in need of an upgrade, the Cardinals are scouting a stout lineman who could excel in any scheme. Boasting a rare combination of bulk and quickness, this prospect could blossom into the next Darnell Dockett. Find out who he is and what he thinks about life in the NFL in this exclusive.

Demario Pressley (6'3", 295 pounds) was the most experienced defensive lineman at North Carolina State with 1,112 career snaps, second most in school history. As a senior, he proved both his versatility by splitting time at defensive end and tackle.

Pressley has tremendous speed and agility. He is a hardnosed, tough player with great closing speed, something that will be sorely needed this season as the Cardinals make a playoff push.

Pressley is cognizant of the opportunity he had in January to meet with pro scouts and coaches at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

"I just wanted to sell myself and let them know, to show them that I am the best defensive tackle on and off the field. I have to work hard and do everything right technique-wise," he said. "I have to be very fast off the ball and be motivated to play."

There are some scouts who think that Pressley does not possess the size needed to succeed in a 3-4 defensive front, which the Cardinals are expected to use heavily in 2008. Pressley will have to hone in on his leverage and technique to silence the critics.

The Cardinals could use the drive and determination Pressley brings to the fold, but it remains to be seen if he will come at a reasonable price. If he slides to round four or five, he will be difficult to pass up.

While Pressley knows there are some areas of his game that he must improve, he wants the Cardinals to know he is driven to succeed.

"They are going to get a versatile player who can play both tackle and end, a defensive lineman who is fast off the ball, runs down a running back if he has to, and just a guy who won't quit," he said.

GM Rod Graves understands the importance of having a good run-stopping defensive tackle, as well as the need for a speedy player off the edge. Pressley could bring a little bit of both to Arizona.
